THE FILM - 'El Mar, Mi Alma' is a cultural surf film experience through Chile shot entirely on 16mm. With a long and diverse coastline Chile is a country not only shaped by its geography; the sea occupies a mystical and poetic, conscious and unconcious place within the cultural fabric of the nation. The film is a visual tone poem, a blend of images and music including cinematic surfing sequences, coastal landscapes, insightful commentary and poetry, and the movements of the cast on a surfing journey. With environmental themes and political undercurrent, the film paints a picture of Chile's beauty and association with the sea, centred around the intimate act of surfing. Starring; Dave Rastovich, Ramon Navarro, Gabriel Villaran, Dane Ward, Chris Del Moro, Crystal Thornburg, Joel Parkinson, Leo Acevedo, Diego Medina and Cristian Merello.
THE TOUR - Surfers gathering at a local theatre to experience a new independent surf film is a long held tradition in surf culture. Film makers Stephen Jones and Tatiana Velasco from Rebel Waltz Films intend on keeping the tradition alive with an extensive tour of coastal towns and cities around Australia screening their unique and beautiful surf film ‘El Mar, Mi Alma’. The tour commences November 18th with an Australian Premiere in Byron Bay followed by limited shows from Queensland to Western Australia throughout November, December and January. Accompanying the film is seldom seen colourful and classic animation ‘The Great Wave’ by Tony Gooley, a timeless piece that’s as relevant today if not more so as when it was made 30 years ago. Be part of surfing folklore and come catch these films on the big screen. Check www.elmarmialma.com for tour dates and venues.
